Expo 2020 Dubai organized yesterday, the celebration of the World Children's Day, the largest in the world, in partnership with the Ministry of Community Development in the UAE and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), through a busy program that included inspiring discussions and a ceremony hosted by the UNICEF Regional Ambassador in the Middle East. And North Africa, the Lebanese star Yara.

Expo’s celebration of World Children’s Day addressed many issues, from innovations that drive progress in achieving sustainable development goals related to children, to education, mental health, climate and youth leadership.

World Children's Day at Expo 2020 Dubai welcomed thought leaders from young people and adults, in order to develop a new vision for a better future for all and stimulate teamwork towards turning that vision into reality.

The Minister of Community Development, Hessa bint Issa Buhumaid, gave an overview of the most prominent and important achievements of the United Arab Emirates in the field of childhood, where she said that the UAE was keen to join regional and international organizations and ratify many agreements, especially those related to child rights and trafficking In human beings, especially women and children, child labor and the minimum age for work, the rights of children with disabilities, and other agreements that preserve childhood and preserve the children of the world.

She added: "Within the framework of national laws and legislation, and to ensure the provision of all special rights for children, the UAE has issued laws that guarantee the protection of children's rights, starting with basic rights, family rights, health rights, social rights, cultural rights, educational rights, and the right to protection, in addition to to protective mechanisms and protective measures.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has made us realize the blessing and power of digital technology, and feel the meaning of those who do not have the technology," said UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Ted Chaiban.

He pointed out that "UNICEF was able to realize the size of the gap between those who have and those who have not crossed digital poverty, as many children have not been able to access the Internet or even a device."

He stated that "UNICEF recently conducted a study, the results of which showed that mental health was a heavy burden on children before the outbreak of the epidemic, and the Corona virus made the matter worse, and it was time to break the silence about mental health and address this problem among children."

In turn, Minister of State for Public Education, Jamila Al Muhairi, said, "The environment in which children grow up determines what they will be in the future, and we stress the importance of the role of parents, the education system, and society, to help them reach their full potential and be the best version of themselves."

She explained that "agile systems around the world were able to meet the needs of students by shifting to online education, implementing hybrid education, and eventually reopening schools."

The Minister of Community Development, Hessa bint Issa Buhumaid, said that holding the World Children's Day activities on the land of "Expo 2020 Dubai" encourages thinking, planning and diligent work to achieve the best possible reality for the childhood of the whole world, by focusing on important issues such as education, mental health, quality of life and commitment. towards the climate and support the aspirations of young people for the future.

She stressed the need to intensify efforts for everyone's sake.

She pointed to the keenness of the UAE legislator on the best interests of the child, as about 12 related laws were issued, promoting the best care, support and empowerment of childhood and for all segments of society, noting the excellence of the UAE in providing optimal care for childhood.
