Austrian youths plot to kidnap and burn police officers due to COVID-19 measures

Three young Austrians from Linz have admitted that they planned to ambush and burn police officers, and attributed the plan to their dissatisfaction with the restrictions of the Corona virus.

On Friday, police said the 16-year-old teenagers and a 20-year-old youth said they planned to pour gasoline on a policeman and set him on fire.

The three youths said that they set fire to a police patrol car in mid-November.

The three young men told the police that they were looking at the policemen as adversaries because they were implementing measures to curb the spread of the Corona virus.

"We're assuming that's what they really intended to do and that they didn't work," a police spokesman told dpa.

That is why they attacked the police car a while ago.”

On Friday, Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schellenberg announced the start of a new nationwide lockdown next Monday and the imposition of vaccination against Covid-19 from February.
