“We welcome the statement by President Putin on the need to resolve the conflict in Donbass peacefully on the basis of the Minsk agreements,” RIA Novosti quoted Psaki as saying at a briefing with reporters.

She also added that the US administration is calling for immediate steps to restore the ceasefire.

A White House spokesman supported the Russian leader's statement on the need to maintain a dialogue between Moscow and Washington to resolve existing differences.

Earlier, Putin instructed the government to take a number of measures that would soften the conditions for admitting goods from certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine to the Russian market.

The President of Russia also signed a decree on the provision of humanitarian support to the population of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that this decree is contrary to the Minsk agreements.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on Kuleba's reaction to the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on aid to Donbass.
