Orchestrated and instrumentalized by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, this migration crisis follows the sanctions imposed on his regime by the European Union last May, after the hijacking of a plane on board which was a dissident.

Brussels immediately denounced unacceptable blackmail and promised new sanctions against Minsk.

Under pressure, Lukashenko procrastinated and said he wanted to ensure the return of the migrants "to their homes".

Poland, meanwhile, is talking about building a border wall.

If talks at European level have started, the crisis is likely to last and we know in advance who will pay the heavy price.

Born in Quebec in 1955, the Canadian screenwriter and designer André-Philippe Côté made a name for himself through comics.

After being interested in science fiction and graphic research, he published, in the 1990s, six albums of his hero philosopher Baptiste the tramp, as well as two avant-garde albums, Castello and Victor and Rivière.

During the 2000s also appeared three albums featuring his character of Doctor Smog, zany and endearing psychic.

Côté has long worked as an illustrator for the comedy review Safarir and the Quebec City daily Le Soleil, where he has also worked since 1997 as an editorial cartoonist.

An annual collection of his best caricatures (De tous les Côté, Ed. La Presse) has been published every year since that date and three major exhibitions have been devoted to him.

His cartoons are also often reproduced in Courrier International and Le Monde.

Cartooning for Peace is an international network of cartoonists committed to promoting, through the universality of press cartoons, freedom of expression, human rights and mutual respect between populations of different cultures or beliefs.
