November 18, 2021 A one-year-old child died in the forest on the border between Belarus and Poland, where he had been with his Syrian parents for a month and a half, who hoped to be able to enter the EU.

The Polish center for international aid reports on Twitter, who intervened on the spot last night. The child's parents were both injured: the father had an arm injury, while the mother a knife wound to the leg. During the rescue intervention, adds the NGO, a young man was also found in conditions of dehydration and malnutrition.  

"I am following the tragic news from the border between Poland and Belarus where a one-year-old child was found lifeless in the forest. It is heartbreaking to see a child die of cold at the gates of Europe. The exploitation of migrants and asylum seekers must stop. , inhumanity must stop ", writes on Twitter the president of the European Parliament, David Sassoli.  

"We call on the regime to immediately cease its aggressive and exploitative campaign in order to prevent further deaths and suffering. It is necessary to provide international organizations with immediate and unhindered access to provide humanitarian assistance." .

The foreign ministers of the G7 (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and United States of America) together with the High Representative of the European Union, condemning "the orchestration of irregular migration from part of the Belarusian regime across its borders. These callous acts are putting people's lives at risk. We are united in our solidarity with Poland, as well as Lithuania and Latvia, which have been targeted by this provocative use of migration irregular as a hybrid tactic ".

"Absolutely nothing has changed on the sanctions against Belarus, our position remains the same", said the spokesman of the EU Commission, Eric Mamer, in the press briefing, responding to those who asked him if the talks with Minsk could mean a relaxation of the sanctions.

"The Commission agrees with the broader framework of sanctions which also includes those who participate in the exploitation of migrants. On the concrete list of subjects for the new sanctions there is a discussion in the Council which remains confidential", added the spokesman for foreign affairs. Peter Stano.
