The authority thus goes back to the previous recommendation that applied before 1 November.

- As of Monday 22 November, we again recommend the regions to try everyone from the age of six and up who has symptoms, says FHM's CEO Karin Tegmark Wisell to Ekot.

However, persons who have been diagnosed with covid-19 during the past six months are excluded.

Increased spread of infection

"The reason for the recommendation is partly an increasing spread of infection in many countries in Europe, and partly that the Public Health Agency's scenarios have pointed to a probable increase in Sweden in the coming weeks," FHM writes in a press release.

As before, it may be relevant to test people even without symptoms, for example in connection with infection tracing and for people who have been abroad or work in healthcare.

FHM also recommends that people without symptoms be tested when someone in the household falls ill with covid-19.

May break chains of infection

Björn Olsen, professor of infectious diseases at Uppsala University, was previously critical of FHM's decision not to recommend double-vaccinated people to get tested.

He is positive that the authority has now turned its back on the issue.

- It is very wise to back off.

It is the only way for us to be able to draw the map of how this virus will now spread in Sweden.

Like FHM, he also believes that the spread of infection can increase in Sweden in the coming months.

- The big benefits of testing are that we can break chains of infection.

The testing itself is not an end in itself, but it must be followed by having an infection trace as well.

- Many who are vaccinated are starting to lose their immunity.

It was quite a long time since they were vaccinated.

All in all, I think it is very good that we are starting the testing because it is the only way to orientate ourselves in what is happening, he says.
