"Farm animals and hunting are the great forgotten" of the law on animal abuse, lamented Hélène Thouy, candidate of the Animalist Party in the presidential election, on Tuesday.

"Major and historic advances" are contained in the bill which must be adopted definitively Thursday in the Senate, after a final vote Tuesday in the National Assembly, assured Hélène Thouy, while pointing out its insufficiency.

For her, "citizens' expectations" for the animal cause "appear year after year", and this law is not enough to meet them.

A "real political cause"

The primary objective of the creation of the Animalist Party, in 2016, was for its founder "to show that the animal cause was a real political cause".

"It must be transpartisan", insisted Hélène Thouy, "but the promises and the effects of announcement are not enough", she reacts to the various promises exposed by political leaders of left as of right.

The Animalist Party advocates the total exit in 2027 of industrial and intensive breeding, but also the reduction in the consumption of food of animal origin "by 50% at the end of the next five-year term, in particular in the context of collective catering. ".

Using livestock subsidies differently

Livestock subsidies "do not provide a livelihood for breeders, torture animals and massacre the environment", according to Hélène Thouy, who wishes "to use public money more intelligently". If the candidate affirmed not to have "quantified objective", her presence in the race for the Élysée wants "to include the animal question on the political agenda of the next five years".

It remains to obtain the 500 sponsorships necessary to be at the start.

“The activists are mobilizing to obtain sponsorship, to meet the mayors, assures the lawyer by profession, but it is very difficult, many mayors do not want to sponsor anyone.

"We have proven that we represent 2%, without means", recalled the candidate, "and our potential is even greater".

In the European elections of May 2019, the Animalist Party won 2.2% of the vote, practically on a par with the communists and the UDI centrists.
