Refugees flock to the Belarus-Poland border

Thousands of refugees from the Middle East who were staying in a temporary refugee camp on the border between Belarus and Poland confronted Polish security personnel on the 15th local time.

Refugees are said to have moved to the Belarusian border checkpoint, which borders Poland, believing rumors that the Polish side could open the border.

According to Interfax News, a number of refugees folded their tents in the temporary refugee camp this morning and moved to the 'Bruzegi' border checkpoint in Grodno Province, western Belarus, the Belarusian Border Guard said.

The group also included many women with children.

The Belarusian border guards said about 2,000 people had gathered near the checkpoint, while the Polish side said about 3,500.

Polish border guards and soldiers installed barbed wire across the Belarus border checkpoint, and fully armed, deterred refugees from entering.

Some refugees are said to have broken barbed wire and attempted to cross the border.
