At 48 years old, David R. appeared from Tuesday and until Friday, in front of the Assize Court of the North, in Douai.

He is accused of having raped and killed Angélique Six, aged 13, on April 25, 2018, in Wambrechies, in the North.

The tragedy had caused a strong wave of emotion, especially since the accused had already been sentenced, in 1996, to nine years in prison for rape, aggravated indecent assault and robbery with violence.

He was released in 2000, without obligation of care.

Resident in the same building as the victim

It was this bus driver's criminal record that put investigators on the trail.

The day after the announcement of the teenager's disappearance, searches on the file of perpetrators of sexual offenses (Fijais) made it possible to identify several individuals living in Wambrechies, including David R.

The man had lived in the same building as the victim, before moving.

"His new home was on the path taken by the tracker dog during the first searches", specifies the justice.

A search of David R.'s home offered investigators new information, including clothing similar to those described by a young witness who had seen a stranger follow Angelique on the afternoon of her disappearance.

The latter, whose psychological fragility was recognized, played in a square near her home.

David R.'s telephone operation confirmed his itinerary on the said day.

When he was arrested, three days after the fact, when he left work, he easily confessed.

He admitted having kidnapped, raped and then strangled the girl with his pants, explaining that he had killed her for fear of going back to prison if he let her go.

"He is aware of his guilt"

The man then led the investigators to the place where the body had been hidden, under the vegetation, on the Chemin du Loup, in Quesnoy-sur-Deûle, a neighboring town.

David R. had unsuccessfully attempted to bury the body after purchasing a shovel.

"He regrets having been overwhelmed by this impulse", specifies, to AFP, the lawyer of David R., Me Eric Demey, who emphasizes that "there was nothing else" during the 24 years separating the two passages to the act.

"He is aware of his guilt, wishes to be tried, to be sentenced, to serve his sentence", continues the lawyer.

"It's the trial of a little girl who is no longer there"

“If at the time of his conviction socio-judicial follow-up did not exist, (…) the sentence enforcement judge could nevertheless have imposed therapeutic care on him.

However, the man left prison without any obligation of treatment, even though he presented an anxious, antisocial personality with psychosexual disorders ”, denounces, in a press release, L'Enfant Bleu, one of the three associations for the defense of rights. of the child (with Enfance et Partage and La Voix de l'Enfant) who brought a civil action.

For the lawyer of Angélique's family, Me Audrey Jankielewicz, the issue of socio-judicial monitoring "will necessarily be addressed".

"But the family is waiting for a complete, absolute truth about what happened, on all subjects," she told AFP.

For her, it is the trial of a little girl who is no longer there.
