Removal of a rare cancerous tumor weighing 4 kilograms from a young patient in Dubai

A medical team in Dubai succeeded in removing a rare and unusual cancerous tumor from the body of a young patient. The tumor was about 20 centimeters in diameter and weighed about 4 kilograms.

The 45-year-old patient was on his way home when he started suffering from severe abdominal pain that continued to deteriorate, so he went to Al Zahra Hospital Dubai, and underwent a set of tests that resulted in the discovery of a huge tumor.

By performing an abdominal x-ray, doctors were able to detect a huge mass in the abdomen, which was then diagnosed as hepatic lymphoma.

The medical team said that lymphoma in the liver is a rare tumor, especially in non-elderly patients, and if it is not detected at an early stage, it is likely to spread to the rest of the body to cause serious complications.

Head of the Department of Surgery and Consultant Liver Surgery at the hospital, Dr. Mahmoud Tabbal, said: “The patient was diagnosed with non-metastatic lymphoma in the liver, but it was in a stage where treatment rates were high. In general, lymphoma affects the lymphatic system and is rarely localized in the liver. The incidence of infection is very rare.”

He added: In the case of this patient, the tumor was very large, which necessitated an open surgery in which a team of 5 specialized surgeons participated to successfully remove it, and it turned out that it weighed 4 kilograms.

Patient HA said: "When I went to the hospital for the first time with severe abdominal pain, I did not expect a tumor at all, not to mention that it was a cancerous tumor."

The news came as a shock to me, but the medical team helped me a lot, and I recovered quickly, and did not suffer from any pain or bleeding, even though it was an open surgery.

Head of Robotic Surgery at Al Zahra Hospital Dubai, Dr. Gokhan Seib, said: “I have never encountered such a medical condition in my career. It is very rare to find this tumor in the liver and it is usually diagnosed at a late stage, but this was not the case with our patient. , who did not have any previous history of cancer or liver disease and is not within the age group at risk of developing lymphoma, which makes the case rare by all standards, but the treatment went well, and the surgery was successful, and the patient recovered quickly and was discharged from the hospital within 4 days. .
