Earlier this week, the government sent out a legal council referral on two new laws that could replace the current gender affiliation law.

If the proposals become a reality, it means, among other things, that children from the age of twelve - with the guardian's consent - will be able to change legal gender without a doctor's statement.

- It is still the case that even if you are younger, it is still the guardian's consent required.

Then it is about something that means that you should have landed in that you have a different gender identity than the one in the social security number, says Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) to TT.

In a survey that SVT sent out to all parliamentary parties, the parties were asked whether they would vote for or against the new proposal in its current form.

"High time"

The only party that answers that they would vote for the proposal in its entirety already now is the Green Party.

"We will vote yes.

The Green Party has long been a driving force in bringing about this legislation.

It is now more than high time for a modern gender affiliation law based on self-determination, "writes the Green Party's LGBTQI political spokesperson Emma Hult.

The Left Party and the Social Democrats are positive about the change in the law.

The Social Democrats state that they will vote for the proposal if the Law Council does not criticize it.

The Center Party and the Liberals also support the part of the proposal that makes it easier to change legal gender.

Other parliamentary parties want to wait for the consultation round before taking a position.

The majority is in favor of change

Despite the fact that the Green Party is alone in giving a concrete answer as to whether they would currently vote for or against the bill, the majority of the parties are positive to the proposed changes.

The only party that states that it does not support the proposal is the Sweden Democrats.

The Christian Democrats and the Moderates do not want to take a position on the issue until there is a completed bill.

“We know and understand that the issue is important for many people, not least transgender people who have a legal gender that they feel does not match their own gender identity.

This should be weighed, among other things, against the fact that the proposal seems to mean that children from the age of 12 should be able to apply for a new legal gender, ”writes the Moderates.
