Jordan's King Pardons 155 Convicts of "Offending"

Today, Sunday, Jordan's King Abdullah II issued a special pardon for 155 people convicted of "insulting the king," according to a statement issued by the royal court.

The statement, which AFP received a copy of, said that "a royal will was issued on Sunday, approving the issuance of a special pardon for those convicted of the offense of prolonging the tongue."

The statement indicated that "the special amnesty included dropping the entire sentence of 155 convicts."

On the second of last October, the Jordanian monarch ordered his country's government to proceed with the procedures for "granting a special pardon" for those convicted of all cases related to "speaking" against the king.
