Cairo -

Egypt is about to start producing an anti-Coronavirus vaccine. This is the summary of the news that has been reported by Egyptian media at different times since the beginning of this year, before the year is about to end without this vaccine coming to light.

During a press conference held by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research at the headquarters of the National Research Center in Cairo today, Sunday, the Egyptian Medicines Authority announced the start of clinical trials for an Egyptian anti-Coronavirus vaccine called “Coffee Fax”, explaining that it is the fruit of cooperation between the National Research Center and the “Vaccin Valley” company. (Vaccine Valley), and that the pre-clinical trial phase has already ended.

The announcement of the Egyptian vaccine began at the beginning of this year, when the head of the Virus Department at the National Research Institute, Mohamed Ahmed Ali, announced the imminent production of the Egyptian vaccine, after completing the agreement with the producing company.

At that time, Ali, who was head of the research team for the production of the Egyptian Corona vaccine, confirmed that the vaccine is in its last stages and is very similar to the Chinese vaccine “Sinopharm”, before the talk about the Egyptian vaccine disappeared with the agreement to produce the Chinese vaccine in Egypt.

And in the middle of the year, the Egyptian government said that it was ready to manufacture the emerging coronavirus vaccines, with a production capacity of 3 million doses per day.

Last June, the Minister of Health and Population, Hala Zayed, visited the Vaccine Holding Company’s factory complex, to follow up on the final preparations of the new production lines for the manufacture of vaccines, at a time when the Ministry’s spokesperson, Khaled Mujahid, said that production would start within days.

Two months ago, talk about the Egyptian vaccine returned, and last September the National Research Center issued a statement saying that the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Egypt, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, would announce in a press conference - two days later - the start of clinical trials on the first Egyptian vaccine for the Corona virus, However, the press conference did not see the light.

in the process of studying

For his part, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, revealed that the new vaccine is still in the process of studying, and is still waiting for the completion of clinical and clinical procedures until it is approved by the Egyptian Medicines Authority, and then we start talking about an Egyptian vaccine, but the matter is still a group of studies that give The possibility of producing it, he said.

During a telephone interview with Al-Hadath Al-Youm channel yesterday evening, Saturday, Taj El-Din added that if the vaccine is approved scientifically and technically by the Egyptian Medicines Authority, it will be transferred to a pharmaceutical company in order to produce it commercially as a new vaccine from Corona vaccines.

The president's advisor explained that Egypt is able to produce a new vaccine and a new drug when the scientific environment is available and supported, in light of the technical capabilities and human elements capable of producing vaccines and medicines.

40% of Egyptians vaccinated

On the other hand, the spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Health, Khaled Megahed, announced that the number of Egyptians who received the Corona vaccine approached 41 million citizens who received at least one dose of the vaccine, adding, during a telephone interview with the journalist Ahmed Moussa on his “On My Responsibility” program, broadcast on "Sada Al-Balad" channel, that his country has vaccinated more than 40% of its population, and is still continuing its campaign to vaccinate the largest possible number of the population before the end of the year.

Mujahid announced the provision of centers to obtain the Corona vaccine at railway stations after their success in the subway stations, provided that the start will be at the major stations (Egypt Station in Cairo and Sidi Gaber in Alexandria), with the expansion of the establishment of vaccination centers in subway stations.

It is worth noting that the numbers announced by the Egyptian authorities about the Corona virus have often been met with skepticism, whether with regard to the numbers of infections and deaths or vaccination rates.

serious measures

In turn, Amr Adib, a journalist close to the Egyptian authorities, called on the government to take “more serious” measures with citizens who do not take the Corona vaccine.

During his presentation of the "Al-Hekaya" program broadcast on the Saudi-owned MBC Egypt channel, Adeeb praised the Egyptian authorities' decision to prevent entry to government departments and many public places - during the coming days - without receiving a vaccine.

Justifying this call, the Egyptian media pointed out that his country will not bear new economic shocks at this time, and that in light of the current economic inflation, the country "cannot bear a new closure."

It is noteworthy that the Egyptian Ministry of Health announced the registration of 929 new infections with the Corona virus and 69 deaths yesterday, Saturday, compared to 909 injuries and 57 deaths the previous day.

The ministry said in a statement that the total number that was registered in Egypt with the Corona virus until yesterday, Saturday, is 343 thousand and 26, including 286 thousand and 891 cases that have been cured, and 194 thousand and 35 deaths.
