The American star Forest Whitaker intends to invest in the youth of the poorest department of metropolitan France, in Seine-Saint-Denis.

Coming to the Paris Peace Forum, the 60-year-old African-American actor is going this Saturday, November 13 to La Courneuve - in the near Parisian suburbs - to understand the needs on the ground, face-to-face with the president of the department.

Forest Whitaker is one of the artists involved in the four corners of the world.

The African-American actor, a two-time Oscar winner, is both UNESCO's special envoy for peace and reconciliation, and the founder and president of an NGO in his name.

Created in 2012, its vocation is to support young people in regions affected by violence and conflict.

Their spokesperson traveled from South Africa to Mexico before stopping last spring in the Paris region where he was particularly marked by the poverty of Seine-Saint-Denis, the department that served as the setting for the award-winning film

“Les Misérables” by Franco-Malian director Ladj Ly.

Stéphane Troussel, president of Seine-Saint-Denis, will meet Forest Whitaker for a first inventory.

The actor is committed with his sensitivity, his background, his personal history, he is sensitive to this territory of Seine-Saint-Denis which is both the poorest in France, but also the youngest in mainland France with young people. who, of course, encounter difficulties, but are full of energy and talent,

 ”he explains.

An envelope of one and a half million euros is mentioned, intended in particular for the mediation of conflicts and the apprenticeship of jobs of the future for young people.
