Almost three months after the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, women still do not know what their rights are.

Many working in the commercial or artistic environment had - for example - to cease their professional activities.

For their part, certain media have had to adapt in order to be able to continue working.

This is the case of Radio Begum, a local radio for women, based in the premises of the production company Awaz in Kabul.

Radio Begum

journalists

now work behind heavy curtains, the hangings have been erected around their desks to isolate them from their male colleagues.

This is one of the adjustments made within this radio intended for women so that it can continue to broadcast under the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ...

Separate space

 "

Radio Begum has obtained authorization to continue its programming,"

explains its director Saba Chanan.

They told us that as long as this radio was dedicated to education and the topics were aimed at women we could continue.

They tell us to make sure we have a separate space for women and so we can work

”.

Radio Begum, however, no longer broadcasts Afghan or foreign music.

“

Throughout the day we play this kind of Nat and Ham which is religious music glorifying the prophet and God.

These are the only two kinds of music we can get on the radio

.

"

Some programs maintained

However, the radio maintained its health and psychological support programs as well as a program devoted to education.

Even if they had to adapt, journalists say they are relieved to be able to continue their work.
