Björn Johnsson is the chief safety representative in Region West and the one who has pulled the handbrake.

The protection stop currently only applies to police officers in the region, which includes Västra Götaland and Halland counties.

- I take the measure to be able to ensure that someone does not risk falling victim to what happened again this summer due to our way of working, he says to TT.

It was on the evening of June 30 that policeman Andreas Danman was shot dead in Biskopsgården in Gothenburg.

He was shot as he was heading in the direction of a suspected shooting on an electric moped.

Since then, there has been secrecy on the material linked to the case, also for the protection organization.

Need to eliminate the risk

The trial against the 17-year-old accused of the murder began on Monday.

The verdict has not yet come, but Björn Johnsson says that enough has come out in the open hearing for him to put the protection stop against patrolling with a moped.

- If we identify any type of deficiency, regardless of equipment or tactics, we need to eliminate or reduce that risk.

To do that, we need to be able to work with the issue without risking anyone else getting hurt in the meantime.

On Monday morning, the parties will discuss a potential break of moped patrol.

If the employer does not want to introduce it, it is likely that the safety representatives themselves will then introduce safety stoppages at the national level.
