China News Service, Changchun, November 12 (Reporter Guo Jia) Wang Song, a "post-00" college student, successfully donated hematopoietic stem cells in the collection room of the First Hospital of Jilin University on the 12th. He is the 118th case in Jilin Province and the 12287th case in the country. Stem cell donors.

On the same day, Liu Yanli, head of the Jilin branch of the China Bone Marrow Bank, rushed to the hospital to visit Wang Song and present him with a certificate of honor.

Wang Song is currently studying at the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, Beihua University, with excellent academic performance, and actively participates in various public welfare activities.

In November 2020, he came into contact with relevant information about hematopoietic stem cell donation when he donated blood without compensation. After learning that hematopoietic stem cells can save lives, he immediately left a blood sample and joined the Chinese bone marrow bank.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation of non-related blood requires a matching search between the patient’s human leukocyte antigen (HLA) and the HLA of the volunteers who have entered the China Bone Marrow Bank.

The probability of successful matching is low, generally only a few thousand to tens of thousands.

Unexpectedly, after only one year of storage, Wang Song waited for a "marrow margin"-he successfully matched a 5-year-old leukemia patient.

Wang Song agreed to donate without hesitation and won the support of his family.

After successfully completing the high-allocation and physical examination, Wang Songding went to the First Hospital of Jilin University to prepare for the collection of hematopoietic stem cells.

"Donation of hematopoietic stem cells does no harm to me, and it can save a life. I have such a fate today, and I cherish it. I hope that the young patients can thrive and live happily throughout their lives." Wang Song said.

On the morning of the 12th, in the hematopoietic stem cell collection room, deep red warm blood flowed out of Wang Song’s elbow vein. After passing through the separator, hematopoietic stem cells were collected drop by drop into the blood storage bag. Patients with blood diseases bring hope to life.

The Jilin Branch of the China Bone Marrow Bank was established in 2003 and belongs to the Red Cross Society of Jilin Province.

In recent years, the number of hematopoietic stem cell donors in Jilin Province has ushered in rapid growth, and 15 cases have been successfully completed this year.

Liu Yanli expressed that she sincerely hopes that more caring people can join the China Bone Marrow Bank, to bring light and warmth to patients suffering from blood diseases, and to continue to create more miracles of life.
