Unsurprisingly, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan retains the presidency of this new Sovereignty Council.
The number 2 also remains unchanged: it is still General Mohammed Hamdan Dogolo, known as "Hemedti", the powerful paramilitary leader whose Rapid Support Forces were accused of abuses during the revolt which led to the fall of Omar al-Bashir.
Of the fourteen personalities on this council, only thirteen names have been announced.
The person supposed to represent the east of the country has not been designated.
Replacement of FFC representatives
The main change is the departure of four representatives of the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC).
The latter demanded a rapid transfer of power to civilians.
To replace them, there is in particular Abou al-Qassem Bortoum, a businessman who had pleaded for normalization with Israel;
a former deputy of the time of Omar al-Bashir, at the head of several agricultural and transport companies;
or Salma al-Mubarak, a personality with no political past, from a large Sufi family in Sudan.
The other members, reappointed, are representatives of the army or rebel groups signatory in 2020 of the Juba peace agreement, and who had recently rejected the putsch of October 25.
