EH Bildu has been left alone in the Basque Parliament
while, for the third time, all the other
Basque political parties criticized the reception of ETA members
as acts that humiliate the victims and legitimize terrorist violence. The 'number two' of
Arnaldo Otegi
and general secretary of Sortu
Arkaitz Rodríguez
has used the parliamentary debate to accuse the State of the
systematic practice of torture of 4,000 people
, to denounce the
"criminal and illegal prison policy"
applied to 200 prisoners of the band and to charge against PP and Ciudadanos, the parties that have brought this debate to the Basque Chamber after the presence of Rodríguez and Otegi in the
gardens of Aiete on October 18
.
"The only violence has not been that of ETA,"
Rodríguez replied to feed with his speech the theory of a "political conflict" in which he has not denied the "pain" caused by the terrorist gang but which he has equated with the " state violence ".
The EH Bildu parliamentarian has gone much further than trying to dilute the importance of the tributes made by the relatives and friends of the prisoners when they are serving sentences.
Sortu
, the legal party created by the former leaders of Herri Batasuna, supports these public receptions but denies that they "revictimize" those who have suffered the ETA attacks.
"They are acts of reintegration,"
Rodríguez said from the gallery of Parliament. A whitewashing of these public demonstrations with
flags, dances, music and firecrackers
that have been reduced in recent months, as highlighted by the EH Bildu parliamentarian. According to his calculations, during the year 2021 there have been
35 releases
and
2 tributes to ETA
have been made public
. Rodríguez demanded from the rest of the formations a
position on "State crimes"
similar to that carried out by himself and Otegi in the Aiete gardens.
The spokesman for the nationalist coalition has tried to use the criticism of the rest of the parties as a boomerang against almost all of them, arguing that there are
400 victims of
"state violence"
without these victims having been recognized or their culprits punished for their alleged crimes.
The PP + C's spokesman
José Manuel Gil
has stressed that 92% of the victims of terrorism in Spain are the responsibility of ETA and that the murders committed by the gang with the political backing of the Abertzale Left were committed in 95% after the death of Franco.
Eneko Andueza
, the new leader of the PSE-EE, has claimed to Rodríguez that "it would not be bad for some of his people" to collaborate in the clarification of the more than
350 unsolved murders
that have gone unpunished.
Although the final resolution critical of the tributes was approved by the votes of PNV, PSE-EE, PP + C's and Vos, the debate also led to cross accusations between these parties. Andueza charged against PP + C's for including in his proposal the request for the resignation of the Government delegate
Denis Itxaso
for his inaction before the public announcement of these events. Also from the PNV the parliamentarian Iñigo Iturrate has warned that the PP + C's initiative "does not bring good intentions" by demanding a critical public position of EH Bildu along with the criticisms of Itxaso.
"When I saw Arnaldo Otegi and you in Aiete it was not very credible to me",
Iturrate has warned with an outstretched hand for EH Bildu to modify its endorsement with the receptions to ETA and join the text approved by the 53 remaining Basque parliamentarians.
