On 1 September, the Västerbotten Region took over the ambulance operations in Vindeln, Vilhelmina and Storuman from private actors.

In Storuman and Vilhelmina, the ambulance nurses chose to resign, partly due to missing schedules, and it was also considered that working conditions would be worse with the new employer.

- They are a development assignment and we have conveyed from the first moment that not everything will be ready from September 1, says Jani Sundqvist, operations manager for ambulance care in the Västerbotten Region.

"Recruitment complex"

All ambulance nurses in Storuman and Vilhelmina resigned when Region Västerbotten took over.

Today, there are two ambulance paramedics in the municipalities.

The rest of the services are staffed by rotating staff who are supported by rental staff.

During the month of October, the rental staff cost SEK 146,000 in Vilhelmina and in Storuman the rental staff cost the region SEK 200,000.

- When we went into this, we knew that recruitment inland is very complex and therefore it is important to have attractive solutions in place and we have unfortunately not succeeded with that right now, says Jani Sundqvist.

On Thursday, the region met with Vårdförbundet and Kommunal to discuss the situation.

- Now the employees have active duty which is then followed by preparedness in the home.

One of the issues we will raise is on-call duty at work instead of on-call duty, says operations manager Jani.

In the video, you hear operations manager Jani Sundqvist talk about why the region has not succeeded in recruiting ambulance personnel.
