A little less than five months after the rave party which had brought together 1,500 people in Redon (Ille-et-Vilaine), three of its participants were sentenced for violence committed against the gendarmes.

On the night of June 18 to 19, 2021, violent clashes had opposed some participants to the police.

A man in his twenties had his hand torn off.

The festive meeting organized in memory of Steve Maia Caniço, who died on the sidelines of the Music Festival two years earlier in Nantes, had turned into a battlefield after the intervention of the gendarmes.

In a cloud of tear gas, several participants and members of the security forces were injured.

Since the events, the prefecture and the gendarmes have been the target of criticism, some judging the use of force "disproportionate".

The three convicted defendants

Tuesday, it is in a much calmer climate that the debates took place.

It was not a question of judging the organizers of the rally but of the participants, suspected of having thrown projectiles at the police.

The three defendants, aged 21, 22 and 36, were sentenced to suspended sentences of four to six months, reports

Ouest-France

.

Two investigations for “involuntary injuries” and for “unlawful organization of a festive musical gathering” had been opened by the Rennes prosecutor's office.

Another instruction is conducted on the subject of the intervention of the police.
