Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Biden sent congratulatory letters respectively, which were read by Qin Gang, Chinese Ambassador to the United States, and Jacob Lu, Chairman of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.

President Xi Jinping expressed his appreciation and affirmation of the National Committee on US-China Relations and its members for their long-term commitment to promoting the development of China-US relations and exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

As the largest developing country and the largest developed country respectively, as well as permanent members of the UN Security Council, whether China and the United States can properly handle their relations is a matter of the fundamental interests of the two countries and their peoples and the future and destiny of the world.

At present, Sino-US relations are at an important historical juncture. Cooperation between the two countries will benefit both, and struggle will hurt both. Cooperation is the only correct choice.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the U.S. in various fields based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, and jointly respond to major international and regional issues and global challenges, while properly managing differences, to promote the return of Sino-U.S. relations. The right track for healthy and stable development.

I hope that the National Committee on US-China Relations and friends from all walks of life who care about and support the development of Sino-US relations will strengthen their confidence and continue to work hard to contribute more wisdom and strength to the cause of Sino-US friendship and better benefit the people of the two countries and the peoples of the world.

Today, our world is at a turning point in history.

From responding to the new crown pneumonia epidemic to addressing the real threat of the climate crisis, the US-China relationship has global significance.

Solving these challenges and seizing many opportunities requires the international community to unite more broadly. Each of us will do our part to build a safe, peaceful and vibrant future.

Thanks to the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations for its commitment to strengthening the ties between our two peoples.

Through the advocacy of organizations like yours, we can seek broader connections and promote the interests that affect our two countries and the world.

China’s US policy maintains a high degree of continuity and stability, always proceeding from the fundamental interests of the people of the two countries and the world, and viewing and grasping China-US relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.

Some people say that Sino-US relations cannot go back to the past. Is it because of this that we can not cherish it, or even destroy it at will?

We never agree.

We look forward to working with the U.S. government and people of insight from all walks of life to strengthen dialogue, manage differences, and focus on cooperation in accordance with the spirit of the first call between China and the U.S., so as to work tirelessly to push China-U.S. relations back on track.
