On Tuesday evening, the United Nations General Assembly adopted 4 resolutions in favor of the Palestinian cause and affirming Syria's sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights.

The four resolutions were voted on in the General Assembly's Fourth Committee, which is the committee dealing with special political issues and decolonization.

The first resolution related to Israeli practices and settlement activities that affect the human rights of the Palestinian and other Arab residents of the occupied territories.

The resolution received a majority of 143 countries against 7 (including Israel and the United States) against, and 16 other countries abstaining.

The resolution condemned Israel's construction and expansion of settlements in and around occupied East Jerusalem, including what it calls "Plan H-1" aimed at linking its illegal settlements around occupied East Jerusalem and increasing its isolation.

It also condemned the continued demolition of Palestinian homes, the expulsion of Palestinian families from East Jerusalem, and the deprivation of Palestinians of their rights therein, and the ongoing settlement activities in the Jordan Valley, all of which are actions that further disrupt the occupied Palestinian territory and undermine its geographical contiguity.

The second decision related to providing assistance to Palestinian refugees and the important role played by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in this regard.

The resolution - which received the approval of 160 countries against the objection of one state (Israel) and 9 other countries abstaining from voting - stressed the inevitability of solving the Palestinian refugee problem in order to achieve justice and establish lasting peace in the region.

The resolution called on all donors to continue to intensify their efforts to meet the expected needs of UNRWA, as it is a stabilizing factor in the region.

The third resolution was attached to emphasizing the property of the Palestinian refugees and the revenues derived from them.

This resolution received 165 votes, 6 opposed, and 9 abstained.

Representatives of member states voted overwhelmingly for a fourth resolution affirming Syria's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which Israel has occupied since the June 1967 war.

The resolution received 144 votes, Israel and the United States objected, and 22 other countries abstained.

It is noteworthy that these resolutions are issued annually by the General Assembly, which has 193 members.

Although they are non-binding resolutions, what is remarkable this year is that the three Arab countries that normalized their relations with Israel last year (the UAE, Bahrain and Sudan) voted in favor of the resolutions.
