This was stated during a briefing by the official representative of the American Foreign Ministry Ned Price.
“We call on the Georgian government to treat Saakashvili with honesty and dignity, in compliance with international norms,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Price noted that the United States is calling for adequate medical assistance to Saakashvili.
The spokesman for the State Department added that Washington is monitoring the situation.
Saakashvili said earlier that he was beaten after being taken from the prison in the city of Rustavi to the prison hospital in the Gldani district of Tbilisi.
At the same time, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia said that Saakashvili damaged the medical equipment and insulted the clinic staff.
