It was during a press conference on Monday evening that Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) announced that the Danish government once again wants to classify covid-19 as a socially dangerous disease.

- The health authorities in Denmark had expected an increase in infected and hospitalized, but it has gone faster than expected, says Frederiksen.

Previously, the Danish Epidemic Commission, which consists of several different authorities, has also recommended that covid-19 should once again be classified as a socially dangerous disease.

"Gives peace of mind knowing that others are vaccinated"

In addition, the government recommends introducing corona passes at major events and selected venues such as restaurants and nightclubs.

- It gives security to the individual to know that the others are vaccinated or have tested negative when going to the cinema or concert, says Mette Fredriksen.

A decision on whether to reintroduce the recommended restrictions will be made at the Folketing's Epidemic Committee on Tuesday.

Almost 300 hospitalized

On Sunday, 242 people were admitted to the ward as a result of covid-19 in Denmark.

In addition to this, 40 people were treated in the intensive care unit and 23 of these needed a respirator, reports TV2.

According to the latest figures in Sweden, which has an almost twice as large population as Denmark, Sweden has 205 inpatients and 30 people in the intensive care unit.

- There is still a rising trend in infection rates, and more and more people are being admitted.

We are entering the autumn and winter, which is a somewhat dangerous time for respiratory infections, says Isik Somoncu Johansen who is chief physician and professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Odense University Hospital to TV2.
