Lena Hartwig, former municipal councilor for the Social Democrats who had a prominent role before the construction of UKK, deeply regrets the deaths at UKK that occurred on Tuesday night.
She was chairman of the jury which consisted of municipal politicians, officials and architects who chose the design of the concert building based on various proposals from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and South America.
What was your and your responsibility for safety?
- The jury's task was to assess the 134 proposals received on the basis of a number of criteria, not primarily the safety aspect.
This was done later in building permit documents and by experts in various fields and current regulations and rules.
I assume that assessments made by experts were correct according to the regulations of the time, says Lena Hartwig.
"We are deeply saddened"
The Danish architectural firm Henning Larsen designed the Uppsala concert and congress, which began to be built in 2005 and was inaugurated in 2007.
