The Iraqi authorities announced that Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi had survived an assassination attempt by a booby-trapped drone that targeted his house in the Green Zone in Baghdad at dawn today, Sunday, and no party has claimed responsibility for the attack, which caused material damage to the house.

Sources confirmed to Al-Jazeera that Al-Kazemi was in his house in the Green Zone at the time of the attack, and that the house was damaged "not insignificant."

For his part, Major General Yahya Rasoul - the military spokesman for the Prime Minister - said that Al-Kazemi was not hurt and that the attack caused material damage.

Reuters quoted security sources as saying that the attack resulted in the injury of 6 members of the Prime Minister's bodyguard force. The agency also quoted Western diplomats present in the Green Zone that they heard explosions and shootings in the area.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command said it was working to track the path of the drone that targeted the Prime Minister's home.

Al-Kazemi's word

In a brief speech after the attack, Al-Kazemi - who appeared to be in good health - said that he and those who work with him are fine after his house was subjected to "cowardly aggression."

He added, "Cowardly missiles and cowardly drones do not build nations and do not build a future."

He called on everyone to a "quiet and constructive dialogue" for the sake of Iraq and its future.

In the first foreign reaction, the United States strongly condemned the attack on Al-Kazemi's house, and US State Department spokesman Ned Price said - in a statement - "We were relieved to learn that the Prime Minister was not harmed. This clear terrorist act, which we strongly condemn, targeted the very heart of the state." Iraqi".

The spokesman added that Washington offered assistance to the Iraqi authorities in the investigation of the attack on the prime minister's residence.

On the other hand, the Secretary of Iran's National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, said that the "terrorist" attack on Al-Kazemi was "a new sedition behind foreign think tanks."

Locally, Iraqi President Barham Salih denounced the attack on the prime minister's house, saying that it was not acceptable to "drag Iraq into chaos and overthrow its constitutional system."

As for the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, he said - in a statement posted on social media - that this "terrorist" act targets the security and stability of the Iraqi people, and aims to return them to "a state of chaos to be controlled by non-state forces."

Al-Jazeera correspondent quoted Iraqi sources as saying that the leader of the Sadrist movement called Al-Kazemi after the attack to check on his safety.

Walid Ibrahim - director of Al Jazeera's office in Baghdad - said that Muqtada al-Sadr did not accuse a specific party, but the term "non-state forces" is usually used to refer to the Iraqi armed forces that refuse to join the official security establishment and call themselves the resistance factions.

For his part, Ammar al-Hakim - head of the "National State Forces" coalition - said that targeting Al-Kazemi's house "harkens of more serious events" and risks "the achievements that have been achieved."

Hezbollah's position

On the other hand, Abu Ali al-Askari - the security official of the Iraqi "Hezbollah" Brigades - downplayed the importance of the attack, and said in a tweet that no one was ready to lose a drone to target the house of what he described as a former prime minister, noting that "whoever wants to harm this creature, there is Less expensive and safer ways.
