November 06, 2021 Vaccine efficacy "remains high" in preventing hospitalization (91%), hospitalization in intensive care (95%) or death (91%) with the prevalent delta variant. The ISS writes this in the extended document on the weekly trend of the epidemic.

It decreases the effectiveness in preventing any symptomatic or asymptomatic diagnosis of Covid-19 in fully vaccinated people going from 89%, during the epidemic phase with the prevalent alpha variant, to 75% during the epidemic phase with the prevalent delta variant. In the last 30 days in Italy there is a higher incidence of diagnosed cases in unvaccinated people.

The period with prevalent circulation of the Delta variant (B.1.617.2) considered in the report runs from 5 July to 31 October for diagnoses, 24 October for hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care, and 10 October for deaths.

"The estimated effectiveness - specifies the ISS - measures the proportional reduction in the risk of observing a certain event among people vaccinated with a full cycle, or the percentage reduction in the risk of observing a certain event among people vaccinated with a full cycle compared to unvaccinated people ".
