A "horrific" knife attack on a train in southern Germany. The perpetrator was a young Syrian

According to information from German security services, the suspect arrested in connection with the stabbing attack on a high-speed train in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria is a Syrian young man.

The departments indicated that the 27-year-old injured three people, aged 29, 36 and 60, two of whom are in serious condition.

According to the German newspaper "Bild", it is believed that the young man "was remarkable for his psychological state" and that he was shouting for help on the train.

A spokesman for the police headquarters in Bavaria's Upper Palatinate region said: "The potential culprit has been arrested, and there is no evidence that there are other perpetrators," and said the circumstances of the crime were still not fully known.

Spokespersons for the Federal Police and the State Police declined to comment further on the arrest.

Horst Seehofer, the German caretaker interior minister, was shocked by the knife attack on a high-speed train in the southern German state of Bavaria.

The ministry spokesman quoted Seehofer as describing, on Saturday, the "brutal knife attack" that took place on the ICE train as "horrific."

Seehofer expressed his hope for the speedy recovery of the injured and all those who lived through this crime.

Seehofer thanked the security forces and the train crew for their "courageous work," adding that the circumstances of the crime were still unknown and needed clarification, "and only then can an assessment be given."

The police had arrested a suspect after the attack on the train between the cities of Regensburg and Nuremberg, and security services reported that the attacker wounded three people with a knife, two of whom were seriously injured.

Earlier in the day, the police headquarters in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria announced the arrest of a man following attacks on passengers on board an ICE express train.

The police stated that they received a report at nine in the morning, "of attacks on passengers on board the ICE train. The police managed to arrest a man shortly after that, and according to the initial evidence, there are many injured people."

The Bavarian Red Cross had announced a short time ago that the stabbing attack, which took place in the distance between the cities of Regensburg and Nuremberg, "caused three people to be seriously injured and taken to hospitals."

A spokesman for the Bavarian Red Cross said this afternoon that between 200 and 300 passengers were evacuated from the train to a lounge near the Zuipersdorf station.

The spokesman indicated that 110 Bavarian Red Cross personnel were deployed to the site, in addition to the presence of crisis intervention teams to take care of traumatized people.
