• Terrorism ETA's victims to the EU: "Can you imagine a tribute to the Bataclán murderers in Paris after serving their sentences?"

  • Basque Country "We must continue investigating the 379 unsolved murders of ETA", demands a special commission of the Europarliament

They leave with the clearest ideas.

The "frustration" of the victims of terrorism in the face of the "impunity" of the 379 crimes committed by ETA that remain unsolved is being verified.

Agnès Evren

, the French MEP who has chaired the European delegation that has visited Spain in the last three days to hear the unsolved cases, was clear: "We share the frustration of the victims. We leave deeply moved. We recognize the work of judges and policemen ". He exposed possible deficiencies in the investigations of these crimes, especially those of the 1980s. "At that stage there was a lack of means and a lack of international collaboration." And he also highlighted during his speech that the delegates have verified that "benefits" are given to members of ETA and leaders of the terrorist gang, despite the fact that "they are not cooperating" in the clarification of the pending murders.

During the meetings, the petitioners of this visit (the Dignity and Justice association) have put on the table possible ways to investigate 35 ETA bosses who could be accused of the 65 crimes of ETA not yet prescribed.

Daniel Portero's association gave all MEPs a report with all these cases.

"It has been a difficult and painful visit," says the president of this delegation to the media.

"The victims need justice, truth, dignity. The victims want no more humiliation. They do not seek revenge, only Justice," he stated.

Evren exposed the coincidence of all the testimonies of the new victimization of the victims every time there is a tribute to ETA members released from prison.

"The victims need to know who has killed their own. Each tribute is another victimization."

He explained that within three months they will prepare a report of conclusions in which they will provide "their recommendations" to meet the needs of the victims, which will be voted on in the European Parliament.

"We are by and for the victims," explained the French MEP who defended the story that may come out about these events as one more tool to tell the truth about what the victims have suffered.

He stressed that in addition to the lack of means and the lack of international collaboration, during the 1980s there was a shadow of terror that filled Basque society with silence.

He also valued the judicial situation that in Spain is open but stopped on the possible investigations of the ETA leaders for crimes against humanity.

He insisted: "We ask for memory, dignity, justice and that the whole truth be known, that impunity be ended."

"We are committed to helping victims alleviate their pain and frustration, this has been an extremely positive mission."
