If the municipal board says yes to the financing, 1200 cubic meters of contaminated soil will have to be transported away from the site.

- A source of larger contaminants can appear and then it can put a stop to the machinery, of course.

We will also involve archaeologists throughout the project and if they find something exciting, there may be delays, says Tommy Carlsson.

If all goes well, the park is expected to be completed in the autumn of 2022.

Over 10 years of waiting

The protests already started when Nyköping municipality planned an apartment building on the site.

At the same time as they started digging in the ground, ancient monuments were found that started an archaeological investigation that delayed the building project, but after the house was completed, the remaining area with parking has fallen into disrepair for a long time.

- There have been many views on what to do and not to do in this place.

That's probably what took time.

We have had a large archaeological survey and soil survey, which has dragged on, says Tommy Carlsson.
