• The installation of this exhibition, which will open on November 12, has just started in the grounds of the Parc bordelais.

  • This is the second edition of the “Legendary Lights”, a first version of which was held in 2019 in Marseille.

  • This completely private event hopes to attract over 40,000 visitors for the holiday season.

A little more than 500 lanterns two to three meters high, 25,000 led bulbs, 26 tons of metal for the structures… And five hectares to be wired for light and sound. Since Tuesday, the Talents & Productions and Limelight teams have been working in the Parc bordelais, in the Caudéran district of Bordeaux, for the preparations for the exhibition

The wonderful world of colors.

An event that will open to the public from November 12, and which promises to be one of the highlights of the end-of-year festivities in the city.

This is the second edition of the

Legendary Lights

, the first of which took place in 2019 in Marseille, on the theme of animals.

"But this time, we are doing even harder, since we go from 300 to 500 lanterns for this Bordeaux edition" underlines Alexandre Hourdequin, responsible for the exhibition.

The wonderful world of colors will

present on part of the Bordeaux Park a course made up of giant lanterns, which plunge the visitor into a world of tales and legends, through representations of unicorns, candies, the house of Hansel and Gretel. , or the carriage of Cinderella… “Elements that speak to children and families, and which are part of the common imagination.

"

The structures covered with silk, by hand

Inspired by the tradition of Chinese lanterns, the structures were made by around forty artisans in China. “When you think of China, you immediately think of an industrialist, but not at all, assures Alexandre Hourdequin. A first craftsman reproduced the drawings on the ground, at real size, a second craftsman produced the metal structure of the lanterns on these drawings, then all this was covered with silk, by hand, by other craftsmen. "

It was then necessary to build the assembly and install the led bulbs.

Led, Alexandre Hourdequin insists on this point.

"The sum of all these bulbs consumes as much as an ordinary Bordeaux fireplace" he promises.

On the environmental impact of the event, he assures us that the discussions with the ecological city hall of Bordeaux “went very well”, even if “the specifications were heavy.

"" For example, nothing should be hung in the trees [a thousand trees in the park are more than a hundred years old], nothing should be put under the trees either, which we respect.

"

"A mystical side"

For the exhibition, the park will be privatized every evening from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

"The public knows this park well during the day, there they can discover it at night," continues Alexandre Hourdequin.

And in addition to the lanterns, we are going to bring a mystical side to it by highlighting the groves, diffusing smoke, smells of candy, as well as noises that let the imagination go ... And to that, there will be added a 15-minute juggling and acrobatics show, every hour.

"

The overall budget for this entirely private event is around 300,000 euros.

"We pay a fee to the city for the privatization of the park, but what costs the most is securing the site," explains Alexandre Hourdequin.

The organizer hopes to attract more than 40,000 people for the event, which will last until January 2.

The entrance fee is 13 euros for the general public and 11 euros for children and students (free for children under 2).

The health pass will be required at the entrance.
