A Barça delegation arrived in Doha on Wednesday evening to convince the leaders of Al-Sadd to give up their coach, in office since 2019 and under contract until 2023.
Weighted down by financial problems and author of a catastrophic start to the season, Barça separated from their Dutch coach Ronald Koeman.
"The discussions have reached their final phase, and today the clause (of release, editor's note) has been discussed," this source told AFP.
"The deal under discussion is that Al-Sadd rescind the clause, and in return, FC Barcelona agree to play a friendly match with the Qatari club in Doha, as well as Al-Sadd's participation in the Gamper Trophy ", a friendly gala match organized annually in Barcelona, according to this source.
Discussions are due to resume on Friday.
Xavi, the 2010 world champion, said Wednesday after the match between Al-Sadd and Al-Duhail that he was "looking forward to coming home", despite the wishes of Al-Sadd general manager Turki al-Ali to " keep ".
