A TER accidentally collided with four migrants who were traveling on the tracks Thursday evening in Calais, killing one, one injured in "absolute urgency" and two minor injuries, we learned from the Boulogne-sur-mer prosecutor's office.

The accident took place around 6:35 p.m. on the railway line connecting Dunkirk to Calais, in the Dunkirk-Calais direction, the Boulogne-sur-mer public prosecutor, Guirec Le Bras, told AFP.

"Four migrants were hit. One person has died, one is in absolute emergency and has been taken to hospital, and the other two are injured but with no life-threatening prognosis," he said.

A passage used by migrants

The investigation has not at this stage made it possible to determine the age or identity of the deceased migrant and the seriously injured, but "a priori", the two slightly injured "would be of Eritrean nationality", he said. added. According to the first elements communicated to the prosecution, "this railway line would be a regular passage for migrants", who use it "to go to camps or elsewhere".

Seventeen people were in the TER but "none were injured", according to the prosecutor.

The prosecution has opened an investigation for manslaughter.

Around 8 p.m., the emergency services had left the scene and the SNCF teams were still present at the scene of the accident, in a residential area located not far from the hospital center, noted an AFP correspondent.
