03 November 2021 Whirlpool sent the first letters of dismissal for the 340 workers at the Naples plant. Union sources reported this. "We

inform you of the withdrawal of our company from the working relationship with you

- the letter reads - with immediate effect from the receipt of this letter, exempting you from working during the notice period contractually due to you". The company confirms "the offers of an early retirement incentive equal to 85 thousand euros gross, including the fee for waivers, as an alternative to its transfer to the production unit in Cassinetta di Biandronno (VA)". A choice that workers will be able to make by next November 30th.

a new

assembly of the workers of Naples

is scheduled

in the plant in Via Argine. At the center of the confrontation, the arrival of the first letters of dismissal, the table in Rome and the new consortium, the waiting for the decisions of the Naples labor judge. In recent weeks, the trade union representatives had filed an appeal with the Naples Court for illegitimacy of the dismissals and anti-union activities and for this reason the dismissals had been postponed. Also because at the hearing on October 27 the US multinational had presented documentation in English which had to be translated into Italian. At present, the judge, owner of the proceedings, has reserved a decision on the trial "for the next few days".

The unions and in particular the Fiom speak of yet another act of arrogance on the part of the multinational. "Whirlpool's arrogance has no limits. The multinational, in contravention of its commitments, sent the first letters of dismissal this afternoon to the workers of the Neapolitan plant in via Argine. This umpteenth act of arrogance comes just as we await the sentence of the Court of Naples which will have to decide on the appeal filed by Fim Fiom Uilm on the anti-union conduct of the American multinational. This demonstrates that Whirlpool, in addition to making waste paper of the trade union agreements signed with the Government, does not even respect the Italian judiciary ". Barbara Tibaldi declares this in a joint note, national secretary Fiom-Cgil and responsible for household appliances and Rosario Rappa, general secretary Fiom-Cgil Naples.

All trade unions: no concrete government project unacceptable a backtrack, no workers are betrayed

Yesterday at the end of the table at the Mise chaired by the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Alessandra Todde, through a note, the unions jointly asserted that there is currently no no concrete solution to avert the dismissals of workers at the Naples site either by Whirlpool or by the Government: "The Mise was not able to ensure that employment continuity for the workers of the Naples Whirlpool which it had on several occasions promised ".

This is the alarm launched by Fim, Fiom, national Uilm and Naples. On the Whirlpool dispute, the unions clamored that the "Government does not betray the promises made to the workers". The government, the unions say, "initially shy away from the fact that Whirlpool would have withdrawn its willingness to make a company transfer, but then it emerged that not even on the government side there is any concrete project that provides for averting layoffs and to ensure continuity of employment. Indeed, the only path envisaged by the Mise provides that the re-employment of workers, who in the meantime would obviously be dismissed, would start six months after the date of completion of the Consortium's investment plan, at the time scheduled for the December 15 ".It is a process, the unions conclude, "which obviously does not avert dismissals and betrays the promises made. This is why we ask the ministers of Labor and Economic Development to return to the table, because we cannot accept such a backtrack".
