Good evening,

clogged streets, more space for bicycles, less and less space for cars, but still tens of thousands who drive through the city every day on their way elsewhere.

That is the situation in Wiesbaden, it is increasingly sawing all road users on the nerves.

There seems to be no way out: Commuters from Taunusstein, Bad Schwalbach, Hohenstein and Aarbergen have to go through Wiesbaden to get to Mainz or the southern motorways.

The second ring, which should bring relief, does not bring any, if you do not believe it, put the test to the test.

And experience what the opposite of a green wave means, it can be grueling.

Something has to happen, something that not only makes switching from cars attractive to many, but also makes it possible in the first place.

The reactivation of the disused Aartalbahn could be a solution.

The Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis could buy the route from the real estate company of Deutsche Bahn AG for 215,000 euros, a bargain price.

But he won't do it for now.

Politicians are too afraid of experiencing a disaster like the city train: It was supposed to run from Mainz via Wiesbaden and Taunusstein to Bad Schwalbach.

A lot of money had already been spent on planning in the Rheingau-Tanunus district when a referendum in Wiesbaden overturned the project in 2020.

Infrastructural measures have a hard time in the country, there is a very deep gap between the demands of one and the acceptance of the other.

Teacher training is to be reformed

They should teach others something in an environment that reflects society, which is why their working conditions change at more or less large intervals. Teachers are challenged differently today than they were ten years ago. They teach more children of non-German origin, are at school all day, take on inclusion classes, prepare young people more intensively for the professional world, they have to be familiar with digital devices and instruct students to use media critically.

A new law on teacher training is therefore to be introduced into the Hessian state parliament before the end of the year, which takes all this into account. Inclusion and digitization should become part of the course, according to the wishes of the Ministry of Culture, and all prospective teachers should have to do a practical semester.

The two state exams remain.

City library on the Zeil?

If it did not persist, it could be a gain: the headquarters of the Frankfurt City Library has been located in a converted office building on Hasengasse since 2007.

That can change because the Frankfurt Roman Alliance is planning to rebuild the city library directly on the Zeil. And to create a place that makes a lot more possible than just borrowing books and that enlivens the city center, following an international trend of designing libraries as meeting points and cultural centers.

Planning and architecture expert Rainer Schulze reports and comments why this is a good idea and why it will not be easy to implement. He also writes what city politics intends to do with the eternal eyesore Hauptwache and B-level.

And from Monday onwards, staff in clinics and retirement and nursing homes in Hessen who have not been vaccinated or recovered must be tested daily for a corona infection +++ Frankfurt will be the location of a new center in which global standards for sustainable financial reports will be set and controlled +++ tickets in buses and trains in Mainz will only be sold cashless from March 2022.
