The "Delta" mutant hits China with the worst outbreak since the Wuhan disaster

More provinces in China are battling the epidemic more than ever since the deadly delta virus first emerged in Wuhan in late 2019.

The highly contagious "delta" virus is spreading across the country despite the strict measures and increased restrictions that officials have taken in an attempt to thwart the spread of the disease.

The country recorded more than 600 local infection cases in 19 out of 31 provinces, in the latest and worst spread of the disease in the second largest economy in the world since the crisis of its emergence and outbreak in Wuhan, according to the “Bloomberg” agency.

On Wednesday alone, China reported 93 new local cases, and 11 asymptomatic infections, and cases appeared in three other provinces, namely central Chongqing, Henan and Jiangsu on the east coast.

Officials in China say they are committed to maintaining a so-called "zero Covid" approach, even though the latest outbreak is coming faster, and bypassing many of the measures that previously controlled the virus.

The stringent responses needed to eradicate the delta mutant have led many other countries seeking to eradicate the epidemic, including Singapore and Australia, to shift focus and rely instead on high vaccination rates to be able to coexist with the virus as an endemic disease.

The capital, Beijing, recorded nine injuries, today, Wednesday, including a case that was reported earlier without symptoms, and the total number of cases in the capital in the current wave is now 38, a small number compared to the situation in other parts of the world but the highest for Beijing since the outbreak of what Before "delta" at the beginning of the world.

Officials told a government briefing that ticket sales to the city were halted for trains from 123 stations in 23 districts, about half of flights were canceled and officials imposed travel restrictions.
