Recently, an ancient large winery site was unearthed in northern Iraq, with a history dating back to the Assyrian Empire 2,700 years ago.

Archaeologists excavated 14 huge stone basins made of white rocks. They were manufactured between the end of the 8th century BC and the beginning of the 7th century BC. They were used to press grapes, extract juices and process wine.

The Assyrian Empire is one of the earliest empires in the world, with territories spanning what is now Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Syria and Turkey.

Archaeologists said that this discovery can confirm that the demand for wine has grown substantially during the Assyrian Empire.
