Among the 58,000 teachers interviewed by UNESCO and the International Education Organization, less than 40% think they are competent in teaching the importance of climate change, and only about one-third of the teachers' self-assessment can explain the impact of climate change on the region.

When asked about the challenges facing climate change teaching, 30% of the teachers interviewed said they were not familiar with suitable teaching methods; more than a quarter thought that some climate content teaching methods were not suitable for online teaching.

This is particularly worrying as there are currently 737 million students in 66 countries affected by the full or partial closure of schools.

UNESCO Director-General Azoulay said that the climate crisis is no longer a threat to the distant future, but a reality facing the world.

There is no solution without education.

Every learner needs to understand climate change and acquire the ability to participate in solutions.

Every teacher needs to master relevant knowledge to teach climate change, and countries must work hard for this.

In view of the above survey results, UNESCO decided to hold the first joint meeting of ministers of environment and education in Glasgow during the Climate Conference. The meeting is scheduled to be held on November 5 and the theme is "Joining Hands for Tomorrow: Education and Climate Action".

The Minister of Education Zahavi said that it is vital that our young people have the right knowledge, insights and skills to face the ever-changing world.

We will launch our'Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy' at COP26.

Through this meeting of education and environment ministers, I want to understand the approach taken to ensure that we will all put climate change at the core of our work.

To successfully incorporate climate change into the curricula of all countries’ education systems, there must be a concerted effort between the education and environmental sectors.

UNESCO will emphasize the necessity of this cooperation at the meeting.
