Many were happy when Brazil's leader Jair Bolsonaro made the promise that all illegal logging in the Amazon would be stopped by 2028. But if it is actually possible, there are divided opinions. - During Bolsonaro's time, the devastation has increased dramatically and new laws benefit those who exploit the Amazon, says Tigran Feiler, SVT's correspondent in Latin America.
Another problem is that Brazil is a very large country in terms of area and the rainforest is located in remote parts of the country.
"Even if Brazil were to introduce far-reaching measures to protect the Amazon, it is not certain that it would be respected on the ground," says Tigran Feiler.
