• PSOE-A Espadas distributes game in eastern Andalusia and elects the mayor of Maracena (Granada) as number 2

  • Politics The 'return' of the Andalusian PSOE to the heart of Ferraz

The Andalusian PSOE, led by Juan Espadas, will hold its 14th

regional congress

next weekend

in the Malaga municipality of

Torremolinos

, the same one where the Andalusian Socialists met in the first regional conclave of the party in 1977.

In the appointment, there will not be the slightest gesture with historical references of the party, such as Manuel Chaves and José Antonio Griñán, both former general secretaries of the PSOE-A, former presidents of the PSOE and former presidents of the Junta de Andalucía. The two are going through a delicate situation, since the Seville Court condemned them, along with almost twenty former high-ranking socialist officials of the Andalusian Government, in November 2019 for the ERE corruption case. The sentence is pending appeal to the Supreme Court. By not calling them to their congress, Juan Espadas's PSOE-A seems to want to erase this past linked to corruption and

patronage

.

Nor is she expected to have a leading role in the congress, although for different reasons, the last secretary general of the Andalusian PSOE, former president of the Board and current senator Susana Díaz, as confirmed this Tuesday, reluctantly,

Ángeles Férriz

, the coordinator of the congress and parliamentary spokesperson for the Andalusian PSOE.

In the last regional elections in December 2018, Susana Díaz lost the Junta de Andalucía, after 37 years of uninterrupted governments of the PSOE.

Díaz is also Pedro Sánchez's old rival in the primaries for the general secretary of the PSOE in May 2017, which the now Prime Minister won.

But before, in 2016, Díaz achieved successes with which he managed to corner Sánchez until he led him to resign from the traumatic federal committee on October 1, in which the then secretary general found that he was in the minority and resigned.

Sanchismo's

revenge

occurred in the Andalusian PSOE primaries last June, when Susana Díaz was defeated by Pedro Sánchez's candidate: the mayor of Seville, Juan Espadas.

With that past, Susana Díaz will go to the Torremolinos congress, if she finally attends, "like any other person," but she will not participate in the opening or closing of the conclave, Ángeles Férriz clarified.

Neither Chaves and Griñán will be "in committees

or have a relevant role

in the opening or closing," he added.

Contrary to usual, this congress will not present a management report from the

outgoing executive

, but rather a political report on the party's situation, by Férriz, who justified it due to the party's "exceptional circumstances", given that the Organization secretary,

Juan Cornejo

, resigned after the primaries in which Espadas beat Susana Díaz.

The 'susanistas'

The provincial groups arrive more

pacified

at this congress, since Espadas has communicated that he will integrate into the new regional executive the three secretaries who were related to Susana Díaz and who have taken a step aside:

Verónica Pérez

(Seville);

Antonio Ruiz

(Córdoba), and

José Luis Ruiz Espejo

(Málaga), as well as

Irene García

(Cádiz).

Other participants in the discussion forums include the former Vice President of the Government Carmen Calvo;

the PSOE deputy and transsexual activist

Carla Antonelli

;

the Secretary General of UGT Andalucía,

Carmen Castilla

, and the MEP

Lina Gálvez

.

The opening ceremony will be attended by the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero and the Deputy Secretary General of the PSOE, Adriana Lastra, and that day will be attended by the General Secretaries of the UGT and CCOO of Andalusia, Carmen Castilla and

Nuria López

, respectively.

Pedro Sánchez will be at the closing.

With the slogan "We are socialists, we are Andalusians", the PSOE-A will bring together about 1,200 people, of which 520 will be delegates from the eight groups and the Socialist Youth (24) and, the rest, participants in the different working groups and guests.

3,035 amendments to the political presentation will be debated and five public spaces for debates or "agoras" have been organized: "We are diversity";

"We are feminism";

"We are

public health

";

"We are the future", and "We are defense of historical memory", which will bring together experts, members of the Federal Executive of the PSOE and representatives of the UGT and CCOO unions, among other participants.
