Narendra Modi will announce this Tuesday, November 2, 2021 the launch of a global solar energy transmission network.

This project could make it possible to generate solar energy in India, and then transmit it to others.

This network will be overseen by the International Solar Alliance (ASI), an organization based in the country.

Capturing solar energy in a country where it is daylight, to transmit it to another where it is already dark.

This is the idea of this global network.

Its first advantage: to allow more countries to benefit from this inexpensive renewable energy, without having to store it.

Ajay Mathur is the director of the International Solar Alliance, which is launching this project.

“

We are studying four connections,” he

explains.

That between North Africa and Europe, between Singapore and Australia, between East Asia and India, and that between India and the Gulf countries.

To achieve them, we asked Electricité de France, EDF, to study their technical feasibility and to tell us which regulatory institutions will be necessary.

 "

These questions will indeed be very sensitive, because the transmission of electricity over thousands of kilometers can be very expensive, especially if it goes through submarine cables.

And that would make solar less competitive.

And above all, regional rivalries could create insurmountable barriers to connect India to the Gulf, for example.

If we want to avoid going under the sea, a cable will have to cross Pakistan, which is India's sworn enemy.
