New technology sucks up the rubbish underground - collects waste from 1,500 apartments

The vacuum cleaner project is a collaboration between Mimer AB, Bonava and the city of Västerås.

Monica Hed Johansson believes that the environmental aspect is one of the advantages of the vacuum cleaner system.

- Instead of having 12-13 garbage rooms, everything is gathered in one terminal.

We will avoid heavy traffic, and to use up precious land where we can instead build homes, says Monica Hed Johansson.

Garbage collection stations already exist in other cities, but this will be the first of its kind in Västerås.

The facility will handle 1,500 apartments' waste.
