01 November 2021 "Betrayal". "This is how young people around the world define the inability of our governments to reduce emissions. And this is not surprising." With these words begins

the urgent appeal

that Greta Thunberg, Vanessa Nakate from Uganda, Dominika Lasota from Poland and Mitzi Tan from the Philippines want to send "to world leaders to finally respond to the climate emergency".

The appeal, published on the NGO Avaaz website, aimed at 750,000 signatures, but at the moment there are almost a million subscriptions arriving from all over the world.

"As citizens of the entire planet, we urgently ask you to tackle the climate emergency. Not next year. Not next month. Now" reads the appeal stating that "we can still do it. We can still avoid it. the worst consequences, if we are ready to change. It takes a determined, far-sighted policy and enormous courage, but it will pay off, because your commitment will be supported by billions of people ".

"We are disastrously far from the crucial goal of 1.5 degrees, while governments around the world are even accelerating the crisis, continuing to spend billions on fossil fuels. This is not a drill. It is red code for the Earth. people will suffer from the devastation of our planet. Your decisions will cause or avoid this terrifying scenario. The choice is yours. "

In the appeal, the activists write that "it is fundamental: to continue to pursue the fundamental goal of 1.5 degrees by immediately and drastically reducing annual emissions, with a courageous act never seen before. End all investments immediately. in fossil fuels, subsidies and new projects and stop new exploration and extraction. Stop counting CO2 reduction in a 'creative' way by publishing total emissions for all consumption indices, supply chains, aviation and international shipping and biomass burning. Deliver the $ 100 billion you pledged to the most vulnerable countries, with additional funds for climate disasters. Adopt climate policies to protect workers and the most vulnerable, and reduce all forms of inequality ".
