At the end of the election day this Sunday in Tokyo, while the subway was full of Japanese who were heading to the center of the city to attend one of the Halloween parties,

a man attacked several travelers with a knife

, leaving 10 injured people, one of them, a 60-year-old man, in serious condition, as reported by the public channel NHK.

Then

the attacker started a fire at Keio subway line bound for Shinjuku

, the busiest railway station in the world.

According to Reuters, the man, in his 20s, was disguised as the Joker and sprayed the subway seats with a flammable liquid.

A video posted on Twitter showed people exiting one of the trains through the windows as the car filled with smoke.

The line operator said that services had been partially suspended after the attack just before 8:00 p.m.

"At first I thought it was kind of like a Halloween event.

But I ran out when a man came in carrying a long knife

. I was very lucky not to get hurt," a witness on the train told NHK.

These types of incidents are not frequent in Japan, although last August nine people were injured, one of them seriously, in another attack with a knife on a commuter train in Tokyo.
