Expo.. Ministers and representatives of international organizations affirm the UAE's respect for the workforce

Ministers in member countries of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue and representatives of international organizations visited the memorial to the workers of the Expo 2020 Dubai, accompanied by the Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Awar, following the conclusion of the work of the sixth consultative ministerial meeting of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue, which was hosted The UAE during the period from 25 to 28 October last.

The visit was attended by the Minister of Labor and Social Development of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Jamil bin Humaidan, the Minister of Industry and Production of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Makhdoom Khso Bakhtiar, and the Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Krishna Shrestha.

Mubarak Fahad Al-Azmi, Deputy Director-General of the Public Authority for Manpower in the State of Kuwait, head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the sixth consultative ministerial meeting, participated in the visit, along with a group of senior officials in member states of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue and representatives of international organizations concerned with employment and migration who participated at the meeting.

The visitors appreciated the initiative to erect the memorial, considering it a humanitarian gesture that reflects the extent of the UAE's respect and appreciation for the workforce of different cultures and nationalities, and to guarantee the rights and care of these workers.

They listened to an explanation of the memorial, which was built in recognition of the amazing efforts and achievements of more than 200,000 workers from all over the world and their dedication to work towards the completion of the urban edifices at the site of the global event.

The memorial includes cylindrical stone columns engraved with the name of each of the workers referred to, and a series of columns cut from one stone extends along the main corridor of the Jubilee Park in "Expo 2020 Dubai".

It is noteworthy that the workforce has completed more than 240 million man-hours, since laying the foundation stone for the construction of the site in 2015, transforming what was previously a sandy desert into the site of Expo 2020 Dubai in its current dazzling image, which is a world-class futuristic city, and a major hub In the Dubai Urban Plan 2040.

The memorial to the workers of "Expo 2020 Dubai" aroused wide interest in the media and "Expo" visitors when it was unveiled early last month, because of what it symbolizes of appreciation for the efforts of the workforce that built the site of the international exhibition with their arms.

It also reflects the amazing achievements made by more than 200,000 workers from all over the world, in order to complete the urban edifices on the site of the global event.

Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “We wanted to celebrate the wonderful work done by the workers and their contributions to the exhibition.

Each of them deserves our sincere thanks and appreciation for their tremendous efforts.”

She added, "Their dedication to their work formed the cornerstone in organizing this historic event, which is the first World Expo to be held in our region, and the most diverse and participating World Expo ever."

The memorial, which was designed by the famous architect Asif Khan, includes cylindrical stone pillars inspired by the phases of the moon, and also refers to the science of cartography and the geometric accuracy of the astrolabe, an ancient astronomical instrument that the Arabs called "the plates".

The series of columns, each cut from one stone, runs along the main corridor of the Jubilee Garden;

To embody the established spirit of cooperation in the UAE, and to enhance the vision and essence of Expo 2020 Dubai, as the first international event of this scale since the emergence of the “Covid-19” pandemic.

It is noteworthy that "Expo 2020 Dubai" also prepared the "Workers' Portrait Series", which includes distinctive images that embody the diversity and spirit of the workforce in the international event, complemented by inspirational quotes from some members of the workforce, which highlights the achievements of these workers and their aspirations for the future.
