October 31, 2021 "A serious and unacceptable act" so Fabrizio Curcio, head of the Civil Protection Department, in relation to the aggression of the volunteers attacked while carrying out a rescue activity to a resident in via Giulio Verne in the Fanusa area, a seaside resort fifteen kilometers from Syracuse.

Three volunteers from the Modica Civil Protection were engaged in a rescue activity. A man had to pass by car and the rescue vehicle prevented him from passing. "There was a discussion with a volunteer - explains the councilor for civil protection Sergio Imbrò -. Then the girl's father intervened and at that point the Syracusan would punch him in the head. At that point a third volunteer intervened. who would have remedied a knee. I myself transported the volunteers to the emergency room of the Umberto I hospital: the first has a head injury and the second a contusion ".

Many roads in this area of the city are still rivers and the rescuers, who are trying to remove the water with water pumps, operate on board the rubber boats. "They are volunteers of the Odv association who came from Modica to participate in rescue operations in favor of the many Syracusans who are still struggling with the effects of the cyclone of recent days. A gesture made for that sense of solidarity that pushes women and women every day men to spend tirelessly for those who find themselves in difficulty, as is happening here too, in one of the most dramatic moments for our territory "said Mayor Francesco Italia.

"Those volunteers were helping a family in need, but some people were bothered by this because they felt that their needs came before those of others. We are living through complicated days that can blow your nerves; fortunately, however, today, certainly to be condemned, it is an isolated episode that does not affect the proof of civility that the Syracusans are still giving in these hours ".
