Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdul-Malik directed - on Saturday evening - to open an urgent investigation into the circumstances of the bombing that took place in front of the main gate of Aden International Airport, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.

And the official Yemeni news agency (Saba) reported that Abdul-Malik followed up with the security committee in Aden Governorate, the circumstances of the bombing that occurred on Saturday evening near the gate of Aden International Airport in the Khor Maksar district, and the resulting casualties, including children.

The Prime Minister directed the Security Committee in Aden Governorate, to conduct an urgent investigation into the circumstances of this bombing, and to strengthen security vigilance;

To miss the opportunity for everyone who targets the security and stability of the temporary capital, Aden, according to the same source.

He also directed the competent authorities to provide the necessary care to the wounded who fell as a result of the explosion.

Earlier on Saturday, a car bomb exploded near the external gate of Aden Airport.

The death toll from the explosion conflicted, as the media official of Aden Airport, Adel Hamran, said - in a statement to Anadolu Agency - that it amounted to more than 10 dead and 20 wounded, while the airport security director, Abu Bakr Jabr, said - through his Facebook account - that the toll was 5 dead and more than 30 wounded.

No one has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Aden - which the Southern Transitional Council has controlled security since August 2019 - has witnessed frequent explosions and assassinations, without the authorities being able to put an end to them.

Yemen has been witnessing a war for more than 7 years, which has claimed the lives of 233,000 people, according to the United Nations.

Since 2015, an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been carrying out military operations, in support of government forces in the face of the Iranian-backed Houthis, who have controlled governorates including the capital, Sanaa, since 2014.
