Few ingredients but a great result: we are talking about the masterpiece of Italian pastry and the most famous spoon dessert in the world: tiramisu.



According to food and wine experts, the dessert was born in Treviso in the 1960s and today it loses its "father", Aldo Campeol, who died at the age of 93. Patron of the historic restaurant "Le Beccherie" in Treviso, Campeol and his wife Alba, co-author of the original preparation with chef Roberto Linguanotto, had never patented the recipe. Over the years, this has meant that other recipes were born and other stories about its origins were told. The Beccherie recipe was then deposited with a notarial deed at the Italian Academy of Cuisine only in 2010. The enormous success of the dessert, even abroad, gave rise to a commercial battle over its paternity, in particular between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto. 



Tiramisu has become a classic offered in restaurants on every continent. And even in the year of the pandemic, 2020, he was the king of food delivery in Italy, with over 22,000 kg of tiramisu ordered, as per the Just Eat report. Rome is the city of home tiramisu par excellence, with over 7,300 kg ordered in 2020. At the Beccheria, even today, there are diners who come to the Treviso restaurant just to taste the famous dessert.



Over time, tournaments and championships of all kinds have been named after Tiramisù, including the "Tiramisù World Cup", a virtual competition with 30 competitors.

The president of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, also expressed his condolences for the disappearance of the "father" of Tiramisu.

"With Aldo Campeol - he said - Treviso loses another star in its food and wine history, which will also shine up there. His very long activity as a restaurateur, and his Beccherie, have gone through decades of the best Treviso tradition, made of hospitality and quality, and of that polite smile that never lacked on his face ".
