Yesterday, Switzerland celebrated its National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai, through a series of cultural activities, in the presence of Federal Council member, President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, and Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Commissioner-General of " Expo 2020 Dubai.

On this occasion, the Swiss president visited the Swiss and UAE pavilions, and the leadership pavilion, and held bilateral meetings with representatives of the UAE.

In his speech at Al Wasl Square, the Swiss president said: “On the National Day of Switzerland, which we celebrate at (Expo 2020 Dubai), we stand together in Al Wasl Square, in the heart of this amazing site, in honor and celebration of the first international exhibition of its kind in the Middle East. Middle and North Africa.

The success of organizing an event of this scale, which gathers visitors from all over the world, and lasts for six months, is a major achievement, especially after the past 18 volatile months.

Hence, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to the United Arab Emirates and its wise leadership for organizing (Expo 2020 Dubai), and I would like to thank the organizers for their continued cooperation and generous support.”

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan welcomed the Swiss delegation, headed by the Swiss president, in a ceremony to raise the Swiss flag, which was held at the Platform of Nations in Al Wasl Square.

He praised the strength of the relations between the UAE and Switzerland.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan said: “I am pleased to mention that Switzerland was the first country to confirm its participation in (Expo 2020 Dubai), in April 2016, and the first country to reveal its pavilion to the world.

With a long history of participation in World Expos, it is not surprising that Switzerland has won so many awards for its architecture, exhibitions, and embodiment of themes in its pavilion.”

He added: "The UAE's relations with Switzerland date back to the early 1970s, during the era of the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul.

Since then, our relations of cooperation across various fields have flourished.

With an active Swiss business hub, the UAE is home to around 200 Swiss companies, and Switzerland remains one of the UAE’s most important trading partners.”

The list of events held on this occasion included an exclusive show by Cirque de Somme at Al Wasl Square and the Swiss Pavilion.

For his part, Commissioner-General of the Swiss Pavilion and Chairman of the Expo 2020 Dubai Steering Committee, Manuel Salchely, said: “Today is a very special occasion, and we welcome our President to celebrate our National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai.

It is a great moment for us to witness how our participation in this global event brings Switzerland closer to the people of the UAE.”

Switzerland was the first country to confirm its participation in the "Expo 2020 Dubai".
